Good food for baby

From 9 months your baby should have a few teeth and will be able to bite and chew. Solid food becomes more important now. She will be able to enjoy stronger flavours and more texture, so it will be good to introduce different kinds of foods. It will be harder to get her to eat new things later - now is the time to try foods like tomato, beans and tuna. If your baby doesn't like something, don't force her, try that meal again another day. Remember that teething will also affect her eating around now.

Vegetable and cheese pasta
1 carrot, peeled and sliced
3 pieces of broccoli
Green beans cut into pieces
1 cup of pasta shapes
Cheese sauce:
1.5 tbsp plain flour
1.5 tbsp margerine
175ml milk
3 tbsp grated cheddar cheese

Bring water to the boil in a small pot, add the veggies and simmer for 10 min. Drain them.
Meanwhile cook the pasta in lots of water, and drain.
Melt the margerine in a saucepan, stir in the flour and slowly add the milk, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Turn down the heat and let it cook for a minute.
Take the saucepan off the stove and add the cheese.
Add the pasta and veg to the sauce and stir.
Mash or cut up and serve lukewarm.

Makes 4-6 portions and can be frozen and kept for 4 weeks in the freezer. This meal is a good source of Vitamins A, C, Protein and Calcium.
